Trip to Oahu, Hawaii - Day 6

 Just another day in paradise!

We had another beautiful beach day on Waikiki! After breakfast, we all headed down to the beach for some swimming and snorkeling.

I can't get enough of water that is this color. I'm never leaving.

Behind where we are (and behind the two folks in the inner tubes), there is a reef with lots of tropical fish among the coral and even some big sea turtles. I'm so glad we brought our snorkeling gear because it was SO awesome to see the sea turtles!

Kern and Todd dug these seat holes, or as someone called them "Hampton Beach chairs." HA!

Another thing that I missed during our last visit to Hawaii when I was pregnant with Natalie was LAVA FLOWS! So we walked down the beach to the Koa Oasis Booze Shack!

Todd presenting Waikiki Beach and Diamond Head before we drank a bunch of Lava Flows.

Of course.

YAY! I'm finally doing it!  This was the perfect drink on a hot day!

We went back to retrieve the kids and get them back to the room (they were ready for a break from the sun). So Todd, Dorothy, Kern and I walked around the property for a bit.

I may have already said this but the Hilton Hawaiian Village is the second largest Hilton property in the world (only behind the big one in Las Vegas). It just seems to go on forever!

There are even water slides in one of the pools!  This area was definitely more for younger kids, but looked really fun. Our kids would have loved this years ago!

I'm madly in love with the flora of Hawaii.

I see you, FC Bayern München!  How funny to see this sticker plastered on one of the maps at the resort!

Later in the evening, after our lazy day at the beach, we headed farther down into the Waikiki area to the Prince Kuhio Hilton Waikiki Beach.

Now. The funniest part of this story is that I didn't realize that this is the same hotel I was supposed to stay at when we visited when I was a kid.  We wound up NOT staying in this hotel back in 1987 because when we arrived, it was surrounded by police cars and firetrucks. A disgruntled worker had set off a bomb in one of the service elevators so the whole thing was obviously evacuated. They sent everyone over to what is now the Hyatt Place Waikiki Beach to wait until the all clear was issued. My dad didn't feel real comfortable going back here to stay, so we wound up just staying at the Hyatt instead!

Since I never got to see the lobby in 1987, here it is.

Our real reason for being there was to eat and to see a show! We had dinner at M.A.C. 24/7.  While we were there, we had a great view of the howling winds that had increased with the approach of Hurricane Hone.

Also in the same hotel is the Magical Mystery Show featuring Shoot Ogawa, a magician from Japan!  The last time we were in Hawaii, we were fortunate enough to see the magic show at Warren and Annabelle's in Lahaina, which sadly burned down last year in the Maui fires.

Grant was the first member of our party to participate in the show, and he got an autographed card from Shoot!

Natalie also participated and can confirm that this WAS indeed, magic. She said the rings were solid with no breaks and she could NOT figure out how he did this trick!

Then, he gave Kern a load of crap for having a weird name that he couldn't pronounce OR remember! But Kern got up to be a part of one of the acts, too!

And with him was also Todd, the magical picker of the card.

He's a born star, folks. He was meant to be on stage.

We got a HUGE kick out of the fact that for the diamond ring trick, he picked Dorothy (who was literally mortified). He took her ring and made it disappear!  Next, he had a playing card that he put inside of a box which he gave to another member of the audience. Then, she broke his box that the card was sitting in, hence Dorothy's total embarrassment! He later told her that it was SUPPOSED to break, but that didn't matter - she was still SO embarrassed!

But, voila! The ring was INSIDE of the card! Whaaaat???

The show was really good, and very funny! We had our picture taken with Shoot after the show!

Sob, we only had one more full day in Oahu after this!
